FOR EXCEPTIONALLY BRED PERFORMANCE HORSES
Cannon Quarter Horses, owned by Billy & Michelle Cannon, in Venus, Texas, is home to a fabulous array of offspring from the Cutting, Reining and Reined Cow Horse industry.
It's been a long road for the Cannons, many will remember them as owners of Shiners Nickle, the gorgeous buckskin stallion who earned the coveted title, 2009 Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Co-Reserve Champion. His untimely death, at the NRBC, was a huge blow to the Cannons, he was due to begin his first breeding season at the ranch and halted the dream of a successful breeding program for the stallion. A limited amount of offspring were bred and his foals performances are followed on this website.
The broodmares are comprised of some of the best in the industry, performers with impressive show records, now passing along their genes to the next generation. Tootsie Rey (Dual Rey x Hickorys Toodie Lena by Docs Hickory) the 2003 mare with NCHA earnings of over $210,000. Lil Lena Long Legs (Smart Little Lena x Lil Lucy Long Legs by Dual Pep) with over $190,000 in NCHA Earnings, and over $450,000 in offspring earnings. Cat Belue, one of her first foals, ridden by Geoffrey Sheehan is well on his way to $200,000 in NCHA earnings! Shady Little Cat by High Brow Cat, who's first 4 foals have earned over $180,000 in the reined cowhorse and cutting pen to date…..check out the broodmare page to see them all.
The Cannon's believe in crossing their mares with proven sires, such as High Brow Cat, Peptoboonsmal, Dual Rey, Metallic Cat, Shining Spark, Wimpys Little Step, to mention a few. In 2013 and 2014 Cannon Quarter Horses have been chosen to select a yearling for the prestigious Western Bloodstock Yearling Sale and Gala. The new event hosts a dinner served by candlelight, highlighting fifty of the cutting industry’s best yearlings who are spotlighted for sale showing a video presentation honoring the dams of each yearling. In 2013 Western Bloodstock selected Chrome Catillac, a 2012 Red Roan colt (Metallic Cat x Tootsie Rey by Dual Rey) the combined show earnings of his sire and dam totaled almost $1,000,000! Chrome Catillac sold for $130,000 the 5th highest seller.
The Cannon horses are familiar faces in the cutting, reining and reined cowhorse pen. The Cannon mare, Lil Lena Long Legs was the only mare who had 2 offspring compete and place in the 2014 Snaffle Bit Futurity. Shiners Lil Nickle ridden by Zane Davis, owned by the Cannon's, placed 6/7 tie, and Big Time In Cowtown, ridden by John Swales, owned by Robbie McKay finished in 18th place.
There are big plans for the future, the building of a new facility is complete, a covered arena along with stalls and breeding and rehab facilities as well as a ranch home, in Waxahachie, Texas. Michelle oversees all the daily activities at he ranch, including just about every foal delivery, making sure the offspring are given the best possible strong start, along with constant care and love. The Cannon's are proud of their horses, ensuring each one is started and placed with the best trainer in the most suited discipline.
Take the time to check out the website, follow the quest for their beloved Nickle offspring, and take a look at the fabulous sale horses being offered.
